Summary:

The Executive Director, Technical Operations and Process Sciences (TOPS) Finance will lead the Finance function for the global Manufacturing and Process Sciences division. As a key partner to the TOPS leadership team, this person will provide financial guidance through analytics, financial modeling and a strong understanding of manufacturing and supply chain operations.

This role will support Seagen’s technical operations both in the US (Bothell) and in Europe. This position will manage three direct reports with a total team of seven professionals responsible for planning, cost accounting, inventory, and manufacturing accounting activities.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on operations and financial reporting: Lead the preparation of the monthly and quarterly TOPS financial reporting packages
    • Lead the TOPS accounting month-end close process. This position will have oversight over the accounting responsibilities for our production site and supply chain operations, including managing cost and inventory accounting and departmental accruals and monthly close activities
    • Understand current supply chain and manufacturing finance reporting processes and systems. Identify gaps, propose, and drive improvements
    • Work side by side with TOPS leadership and Finance Leadership to strengthen and streamline our manufacturing and supply chain finance processes (incl. SOX compliance) enabling Seagen’s evolution to a global multi product company
    • Ensuring the highest standards of financial control and compliance in-line with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; partnering with Accounting and Internal Audit

  • Deliver on financial planning & analysis:
    • Oversee the monthly and quarterly reporting cycles and leading the annual budget / financial planning activities
    • Lead financial analysis of financial and operational results versus plan delivering financial insights and decision support to TOPS leadership
    • Responsible for TOPS Budget / Latest Estimate Quarterly Business Reviews
    • Oversee and support the TOPS Finance team with the implementation of standard costing, a new Oracle planning tool and related process control changes

  • Business partner leadership: Engage with TOPS leadership and VP Corporate Finance to provide decision support through strategic and tactical financial analyses for a global multi-product company
    • Build partnership with CTO and TOPS leadership team to drive financial planning and reporting for TOPS organization
    • Support Supply Chain with successful Integrated Business Planning implementation; Partner with Supply Chain, Commercial and Finance to ensure robust supply forecasting and inventory planning for commercial and clinical programs
    • Lead financial analysis with data driven insights to support Program Steering Committee program budget proposals and investment evaluations, evaluate new program and/or study resource requirements, working side by side with Portfolio Strategy and HR to pressure test key assumptions
    • Develop scenarios to communicate impact of trade-offs in investments to support decisions by leadership

  • Leadership:
    • Provide leadership to TOPS Finance team and develop the TOPS Finance team to raise the bar with financial reporting and analysis
    • Drive discussions on financial matters w/ith Finance leadership, TOPS leadership, Corporate Development, including EC members
    • Hire, manage, and develop direct reports by providing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities while building a high performing team
    • Challenge and inspire team to achieve goals and responsible for tracking team and individual progress
    • Foster an inclusive environment that respects and amplifies diverse experiences and perspectives on the team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 15 years of finance experience, with several years of financial leadership experience: Previous experience in senior manufacturing finance (including plant operations experience) and cost accounting roles with a strong aptitude for business partnership
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with inventory control, plant reporting metrics, capacity planning and providing and preparing operations financial analysis tools
  • Minimum of 10 years in an FPA role with direct interaction with the business
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a business partner with senior leaders in organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmaceutical or Biotech experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and Oracle skills
  • Data-driven with the ability to influence senior leaders to drive business decisions
  • Demonstrated Strategic Ability: The ability to think bigger picture across diverse functional areas of the business and help arrive at the best decision for the overall organization. Ability to incorporate multiple perspectives and variables to analyze issues in order to reach an opinion and recommendation on best path forward along with articulation of pros and cons of different available options and proposed recommendations
  • Results Orientation: The ideal candidate will be results-driven and must thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The person must have the ability to deliver results and possess a strong drive to meet and exceed goals and is willing to take ownership of problems and make sound decisions. A “can-do” attitude is an absolute must. Business Savvy and Financial Acumen: The candidate will possess exceptional financial analytical and problem-solving skills. These skills must be balanced by sound business judgment. Hands-on, with the ability to transition from strategic thinking to tactical execution.
  • Change Leadership: The candidate must be an independent self-starter and a proactive leader with a drive to strive for continuous improvement and consistently challenging the status quo. Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to influence all levels of the organization through providing data-driven analytics and insights that drive better results and decisions

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CPA preferred

The hiring pay range for this position is $272,000 - $352,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
