Summary:
Seagen is seeking an Associate Director, Risk Management (RM) & Occupational Health (OH) within Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability (EHSS). In this role, the person will oversee successful development, implementation, and execution of OH program strategy. They will be accountable for establishing company occupational health standards and responsible for the implementation across facilities in North American and Europe. This role is focused on ensuring the sites have established risk management & OH programs, compliant to global EHSS Standards, regulatory requirements, promote wellness, and are progressing in maturity. This role will also be instrumental to the organization to drive line management accountability and engagement of employees resulting in EHSS excellence. This role will be part of the EHSS & Compliance Leadership team, shape the company strategy, and future of the department.
Some of the key areas of responsibility including: risk management, chemical management, industrial hygiene, potent compounds, medical monitoring, biosafety, and wellness programs. While this leader will be accountable for establishing and executing the company’s EHSS Risk Management & Occupational Health strategy, the company’s growth will present opportunities to expand their responsibility for a person with the right qualification. The role will report to the Global Head, EHSS & Compliance.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop a broad understanding of the business and lead with an enterprise view.
- Lead the global EHSS Risk Management program. Including the program rollout, training, tools, and oversight of the companies EHSS risks.
- Develop and implement operational strategy for execution of EHSS OH programs and initiatives to serve all Seagen employees.
- Partner with leaders to develop functional EHSS RM & OH processes and create and inspire a culture focused on continuous improvement across the organization.
- Develop and implement the EHSS Standards, technical references/procedures and the EHSS OH program to ensure that they are established, current, accurate, compliant, and effective.
- Drive the organization’s Chemical Management program, including risk assessment, controls, and monitoring of those controls.
- Lead all elements of the companies Potent Compound program including assessments, banding, controls, and associated monitoring.
- Implement a robust Industrial Hygiene program for both chemical and physical hazards.
- Serve as the expert in recommending handling requirements of newly developed compounds in accordance with their risk assessment.
- Lead the organizations Biological Safety program, acting as the Biological Safety Officer, oversee the biosafety committee, assess the submitted protocols, review of new facility development in meeting biosafety requirements.
- Mature the companies medical monitoring program working with local clinics, injury/incident case management, and travel health services.
- Oversee the company’s ergonomics program.
- Develop Seagen’s strategy on Health and Wellbeing focused on the pillars of nutrition, health screening/education, healthy living, and access to fitness.
- Partner with Human Resources in developing programs for mental health, resilience/phyco-social, and substance free workplace.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Nursing, Safety, or Biology.
- Multi-national and global standards develop experience.
- Minimum of 5 years site experience with site and multi-site responsibility.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in R&D or manufacturing with specific experience in these areas: potent compounds, industrial hygiene, occupational health, engineering, environmental health & safety.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in occupational health, industrial hygiene, potent compounds, medical administration, health & wellbeing, or related field.
- Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other EHSS/OH related certification/certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Nursing, Safety, or Biology
- Experience in developing and implementing programs at a multi-site/corporate level
- Experience in Life Science, Pharmaceutical, and FDA regulated industry experience is required
- Experience with Pharma/biopharma Manufacturing, Commercial, and R&D organizations
- The ability to communicate broadly and demonstrated experience in understanding of business value drivers
- Strong leadership, collaboration and influencing skills with demonstrated ability to problem solve and drive positive change.
- Experience effectively working in a matrixed structure.

The hiring pay range for this position is $162,000 to $210,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
