Summary:

Seagen is seeking a Director of Business Operations for the global Real Estate and Facilities (REF) Division, which leads the company’s real estate, facilities management, site and manufacturing engineering, environment, capital project delivery, health, safety, sustainability, compliance, corporate security, real estate, and workplace functions. In this exciting role, the Business Operations Director enables change in a dynamic and complex environment and should be focused on keeping a watchful eye on the various moving parts within the REF organization.

They will manage this complexity through strategy deployment, program/performance management, embedding quality improvement, and supporting business data analytics and analyses. This is a critically important role, enabling the VP, REF to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders and fulfill the enterprise-wide commitments across the Seagen organizations. This is not an administrative role; it is highly strategic and facilitative one that requires a combination of focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role. The role will report to the VP, REF and will partner with cross-functional internal stakeholders and business partners across Seagen.

As the VP, REF‘s trusted lieutenant, the individual in this role must be a highly resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and strong analytical skills. The position requires extensive cross-group coordination at all levels, excellent communication skills, compelling presentations, and comprehensive business review materials that span all the various areas of real estate & facilities. The Director will participate in all overall strategy and business execution discussions.

The successful candidate will be discrete, highly energetic, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, a direct communicator, highly organized, and committed to the vision and values of REF and Seagen.

Key Responsibilities

Project coordination/orchestration

  • Create processes and practices that drive efficiencies for the VP, leadership team, and organization
  • Work with leadership team to align their actions and communications in support of agreed upon goals
  • Drive communications including broad employee engagement and reinforcement of organizational priorities
  • Provide oversight and guidance to projects of high importance, including defining stakeholders, strategic benefits, and outcomes
  • Drive individual projects as required by the VP, REF
  • Apprise the VP, REF of project status, risks, and variations from schedule or scope
  • Maintain a keen awareness of REF business activities and keep VP, REF informed of emerging issues

Performance management

  • Builds, directs, manages, and ensures implementation and effectiveness of the REF Performance Management and Improvement program
  • Implements a performance management and improvement process that leads to a positive and measurable impact on the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Coordinate with Service Performance & Development on performance management and quality improvement capacity building for all levels of REF management and staff
  • Enable and foster a culture of high organizational performance through internal and cross-group initiatives, and leading cross-team projects to optimize organizational performance and morale

Leadership of special projects

  • Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance
  • Present ideas for special projects that might facilitate the REF leadership’s objectives
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders, including outside parties, to undertake analysis
  • Present findings to REFLT and/or VP, REF as appropriate
  • If necessary, oversee transfer of the project to other stakeholders within the organization
  • Display a high-level of gravitas, thereby engendering effective engagement and collaboration with executive-level business partners across the Seagen organization

REF Leadership Team (REFLT) meeting preparation/facilitation

  • Plans key business activities and provide strategic direction and preparation for executive engagement across internal leadership meetings and business reviews
  • Work closely with REF leadership team to develop content of the REFLT meetings, confirm objectives for the meeting, recommend participants, and define best approaches
  • Help ensure participants are aware of and prepared for the meeting
  • Attend meetings, capture major take-a ways, and work with the executive team to ensure follow up
  • Work with VP’s Administrative Assistant to ensure appropriate and timely communication to participants
  • Monitor progress/achievement of next steps

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science required
  • Minimum of 7 years work experience required in a strategic business operations role Applicable/transferable experience: private sector roles in law, business strategy or consulting; public sector policy roles; campaign aides/strategists
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a management role with the accountabilities of staffing, resource utilization, performance management, issue resolution, vendor management, and overall team performance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advance degree MSc, MBA, JD or PhD preferred
  • Strong communication skills – written, oral, and interpersonal
  • Strategic thinker who must be detail-oriented and have analytical problem-solving capabilities
  • Results/action-orientation; project management skills
  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels
  • Self-starter who deals well and thrives in ambiguity
  • Strong project management skills and able to lead multiple high-profile projects forward and effectively leverage available resources to drive results
  • Successfully navigate between tactical and strategic objectives

The hiring pay range for this position is $196,000 to 253,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
