Summary

Seagenis seeking a Director of Service Development – Scientific Services within the Real Estate and Facilities (REF) organization. This Facilities Management (FM) role is responsible for providing leadership and direction into the development of the global strategy, policy, and standards for optimizing the delivery of all aspects of scientific services across the R&D and Manufacturing businesses. They are accountable for all elements of scientific service development and deployment, challenging the business requirements, delivering effective service solutions and the relationship management with site or regional Seagen stakeholders. They will lead innovative service expansion opportunities through a scientifically aligned, data-driven approach that attain best-in-class customer success by driving rapid implementation of solutions. He/she will work closely with the key stakeholders (e.g., R&D leaders, Site Lead, Service Partners, Finance, Procurement, etc.) to drive global service performance, identify opportunities to optimize cost while increasing customer satisfaction through efficient, workplace integration and implementation.

They will lead and manage a team of highly skilled, diverse SMEs in their day-to-day activities to apply innovative thinking to performance challenges across scientific services. This includes building the team, embedding best practice processes, managing key customer relationships, and planning efficient resource allocation across the team.

This person will possess strong scientific acumen and perspectives combined with broad management and commercial skills for strategic focus and business value add. This role will be accountable for maintaining facilities management expertise and competency across sites. The expectation is this function will set a target for Best-in-Class results while focusing on quality product for Seattle Genetics patients. This role will report to the Sr. Director, Global Facilities Management.

Principal Responsibilities:

Strategy Deployment

  • Define and articulate the global vision and strategy for the service line encompassing service innovation, improvement/enhancements, and expansion
  • Establish a roadmap and action plan to develop a portfolio of new, strategic service initiatives while also capitalizing and delivering on relevant near-in opportunities
  • Effectively engage and build relationships across the matrix organization and senior leaders as well as with external partners Inspire, lead, and influence cross functional teams, internal stakeholders, and customers for distributive new product initiatives
  • Strong customer-orientation towards uncovering customer insights and requirement, leveraging both personal engagements and secondary and primary sources of information (e.g., surveys, VOC).
  • Formulate strategies to transform and innovate multiple services within the service line on a global scale, with intense focus on improving the customer experience and increasing efficiency of the delivery teams
  • Cascade service line strategies across sites, translating them into meaningful, discrete programs, projects, and metrics
  • Communicate and align strategy with key internal and external stakeholders

Performance Management

  • Define service policy and standards including service scope, measures, and cost as defined by and with customer and industry-driven data and requirements. Measure and benchmark the service line across Seagen sites and industry leaders
  • Validate performance reporting and to ensure appropriate metrics are delivered by the service providers to key internal stakeholders and to capture/confirm business-value-delivered information for key service categories
  • Chair, co-chair, or otherwise lead the global scientific service team including key stakeholders, business partners, and contract partners
  • Drive implementation of service line transformation programs across sites globally
  • Financial savvy with a command of pricing and profitability, working all aspects of the P&L to deliver viable business propositions
  • Evaluate progress against performance plan and recommend corrective action as needed
  • Manage service compliance adherence and identify/escalate service risks to governance teams to drive the organization to meet highest standard of ethics and compliance whilst managing risk

Build Capability

  • Organized and driven approach to managing projects, team members, etc. to establish and deliver on key initiatives and performance targets
  • Teach and coach internal team members and service partner leadership on scientific service excellence principles, techniques, and behaviors
  • Embed a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focus
  • Create strong teamwork between REF, its service partners, and its customers

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements

  • A strong technical (e.g., scientific, engineering) and/or commercial (e.g., MBA) background in developing product or service strategy
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a functional leadership position within one or more areas including Medicinal Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Process Sciences, or related functions
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the relevant experience in these areas; technical services/engineering, real estate, property management, facilities management in a biotech/pharma/life science environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge understanding of the Research & Development process and generally understands GxP requirements as applicable depending on services within the remit

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ability to think and act strategically and initiate and engage in long term planning with a proven ability to deploy strategies and strong ability to act as motivator of change
  • Significant level of spend, complexity, technical and business support issues associated with the role requires strong leadership combined with technical expertise and ‘Enterprise Thinking’ in order to be able to effectively direct all scientific service activities across all R&D and manufacturing sites
  • Customer focused and able to demonstrate an understanding of business needs analysis and customer relationship management
  • Outstanding managerial skills and leadership abilities in-order to motivate and influence senior Seagen executives and managers in a demanding and rapidly evolving environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentational, and persuasive skills so-as to successfully interact with managers at all levels and the ability to manage internal relations with global and site customer base
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with key external contract partners, to support the consistent delivery of site scientific services in agreement with established contracts
  • Acts as a role model for applying standards to ensure compliance
  • Can translate scientific technical data/information to see basic relationships and articulate key messages
